Those Crazy Chinese

I read the following in ChinaDaily Online Community :

Man, you gotta love those crazy Chinese. My air conditioner broke the other day. The guy turns up to fix it.

We're on the 19th floor so he looks out the window at the unit perched outside on 2 foot wide concrete shelf that sits in mid air.

Big smile, reaches into his bag and pulls out a piece of rope and ties it around his waste. Hmm, what to do with the other end?

Ohhh, he hooks it over the top of the flimsy bathroom window which could carry the body weight of a large rat at best.

That's it, in a second he's out their, through the small bathroom window, slings himself up 4 feet to the 2 foot wide concrete block, and he's out there working.

He is perched 19 floors up on a 2 foot wide slab and it's been raining. There is no safety at all.

How does he handle such hardship every day?

He starts singing his favourite Chinese song. He's still humming to himself now and I still feel dizzy watching him from the safety of my own window. Later I quiz him about the safety. He says he's been doing this job for 7 years and no problem with a big grin.

So, when I hear those dribbling foreigners that are spoiled and fat and condescending as they prattle about their democracy and other general bullsh&t…….. I often think to myself.... You %$#@# idiot, you really have no conception of what it is like to be a Chinese person living in China today

You are so spoiled and babied by your family and society that you have no idea how most of the world lives as you sprout you condescending cr@p about freedom of speech and your second rate democracy.

I say to you, get a life and leave the Chinese people to live theirs. Right now they are interested in improving there everyday life and maybe sending money back to their family in the village. Your probably trying to charge your parents to mow their lawn. ...."

The Custom of Crying Marriage

A traditional matrimonial custom of China’s Sichuan Province

“….According to elderly people, every bride had to cry at the wedding . Otherwise, the bride's neighbors would look down upon her as a poorly cultivated girl and she would become the laughingstock of the village. In fact, there were cases in which the bride was beaten by her mother for not crying at the wedding ceremony……… In west Sichuan Province, the custom is called "Zuo Tang (Sitting in the Hall)". Usually, the bride begins to cry a month before the wedding day. As the night falls, the bride walks inside the hall and weeps for about an hour. Ten days later, her mother joins her, crying together with her.; Another ten days later, the grandmother joins the daughter and mother, to cry together with them. The sisters and aunts of the bride, if she has any, also have to join the crying……..”

Isn’t that marriage suppose to be an auspicious and happy affair ? Me still no comprehendo why the women need to do all these unnecessary and pretentious crying. Crying for social acceptance ? Crying to acknowledge that the future is fatalistic once the knot is tied ? Or was it to showcase to Beijing Olympic’s tourists the greatness of China’s glorious cultural heritage ? Although I find the custom interesting, but it simply doesn’t make sense to me why it is still being practice today. Not wanting to be culturally insensitive, but I still think this blind continuation of cultural absurdities is weird and inappropriate. This is 21st century, why regressed to the olden era and bounded by inappropriate and outdated custom ? Well, maybe crying babies can get the milk. But what do crying brides get ? spermatozoa ?

Chinese dragon ladies are coming..... ?

"These women are enticing local married men into having affairs with them and are causing family disharmony...." - Ng Yen Yen, Head of the women's wing of the Malaysian Chinese Association.

“There is distrust of Chinese nationals among the local Chinese community as even now there are many broken marriages because of mainland Chinese women...” - Teresa Kok, Member of Parliament, Democratic Action Party.

I read with amusement the irrational objections voiced out by woman groups in Malaysia when the government announced its intention to allow the recruitment of domestic helpers from China. Honestly, I am embarrassedly amused by remarks of all these WO-MEN !

The one and only one main concern put forward by these woman groups is "Domestic helpers from China are husbands-snatchers, and Homes Wreckers". My God, are these women educatedly serious about their concerns and generalizations ? Even before these domestic helpers arrived, the Malaysian women already sexually profiling the Chinese domestic helpers to be domestic whores. I do find it interesting to note this irrational sexist discrimination of women by women. On one hand, they had been very vocal about being discriminated by the male species, but on the other hand, they seemed to think that it is acceptable for them to discriminate women who are economically less well off. By the way, to these self righteous defenders of home harmony, who are you hiring into your home ? Why measuring the qualifications of domestic helpers using the yardsticks for measuring whores to justify fantasized competitions ?

Women, women, you people from planet Mars or Venus ? For heaven sake, there is no planet Hollywood in our solar system. We are all from this little blue marble called Earth. So, please show some empathy and humanity to accord respect and treat every homo sapient as equal.

Let me put this to you, if your husband want to be "naughty", he will do it with any "maid" of any nationality. So, please don't degrade the Chinese women with your indecent and biased profiling. Perhaps, no offense and insensitivity intended, may I suggest these women to spend less time social networking their women rights' voices to be heard, and start spending more time with their family. These time tested efforts will bring more harmony to the family then trying to prevent the domestic helpers from China working in Malaysian homes.

So, aren't all these educated women a bit too naive and insensitive to indirectly referenced men as having low moral, no self discipline, and are irresponsible ? Women, what is in your minds ? Are all men nymphomaniac sexual animals that are incapable of resisting and managing indecent temptations, seductions, and sexual advances from any two legged animals that came wrapped in skirts ? I would like to think that these women are educatedly lack of self confidence in themselves and their husbands. Hmmmm... I really pity their husbands having have to put up with their women's insecurities, inferiority complexes, and constant suspicions ! Well, when there is no TRUST in a relationship, BETRAYAL is the natural outcome. So, who do we blame when a marriage broke off ? The husbands ? Wait, wait, wait... it is better to blame the Chinese domestic helpers. And, the women remained the perpetual aggrieved angels from Venus !

Now, let's assumed that your husband is hopelessly "naughty", I bet if you drilled a hole in a lamp post and put a skirt around it, your husband will go for it also! So, please don't be so naive to blame the Chinese Domestic Helpers for your marital problems.

So, the Chinese Dragon Ladies are coming to wreck Malaysian homes ? Come on, give me a break. Please stop parading your uncultured ignorances and immoral stupidities ! I find it offensive for these irresponsible profiling, prejudices, and discriminations against Chinese nationals, especially women. Who knows, the wheel of karma is a funny little concept, one day, your daughters or even you may end up on the receiving ends of vipakka - working as domestic maids in China.

I said, if you really care about harmony in your home, spend more time with your family, take good care of your husband, and take good care of your children. Please do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you. Have fair eyes for humanity.

A sick teacher's tale from China......

Sick teacher's tale melts many hearts

CHENGDU: None of Dou Hongbo's students were aware that their teacher suffered from anemia until he collapsed in the middle of a lecture on January 8.

The prognosis was not good. Dou's condition was so advanced that a kidney transplant was judged his only hope, but the costly procedure was more or less out of reach for someone living on the teacher's meagre salary.

That was when news of his condition started to spread, eventually inspiring a wave of kindness that reached its peak during the Spring Festival holiday, as local people flooded Dou's hospital room with flowers, fruits and food and what appears to be enough money to pay for his operation.

"I feel better than before Spring Festival and can walk now thanks to all the support from the public," said the 25-year-old teacher.

Dou teaches Chinese language, ethics and sports for fifth graders at Luqing Village Primary School in Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County. He also teaches sports to second, third and fourth graders.

"The school's students are poor. Mr Dou has given money to many students to help them pay for their expenses and workbooks," said Peng Weihong, a fourth-grader at the school.

"To save money, he doesn't eat breakfast and gives his lunch to poor students," said Peng, who had traveled for 10 hours along a mountain path to see her teacher before the lunar new year.

Several months ago, students noticed that Dou had started carrying a little brown bottle around with him. Whenever he coughed, he would have a drink from it. They assumed that the bottle contained some kind of soft drink. It was not until Dou fainted early last month did they find out that the bottle contained traditional Chinese medicine.

Zhong Ling, chief of the Department of Kidney-related Diseases at No 2 Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing Medical College in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, where Dou is being treated, said severe anemia had caused Dou's kidneys to fail and a transplant would be his biggest hope of survival.

But the operation, which costs hundreds of thousands of yuan, was out of Dou's reach. With a monthly salary of only 700 (about $90), he has to support a wife and seven-month-old daughter.

Luqing is a poor village more than 40 kilometers from the county seat. But that did not stop students from Peng's class from traveling a long distance to sell corn and eggs at the market to raise more than 1,000 yuan ($128) to help pay for Dou's medical fees.

"Mr Dou must have got sick because he works so hard. There are fewer than 10 teachers at the school, and more than 400 students. He had to teach more than 20 classes each week," Peng said.

Local media picked up the story of Dou's illness and his students' efforts to help their teacher, and the news touched the hearts of countless readers when it was published in the middle of this month.

On February 13, local media launched a fund-raising campaign in Chongqing. Anyone who wanted to contribute to the effort to help Dou could send a short message that cost 10 yuan ($1.3) via mobile phone.

The scale of the public response to the campaign came as something of a surprise. Within three days, donations from short message senders amounted to 400,000 yuan ($51,282), which was enough to cover Dou's medical expenses, according to Xie Gangjin, headmaster of Dou's school.

He marries himself ?

Liu Ye (流野), a 39 years old Hakka man from China's Zhuhai city "marry" a life sized foam cut-out of himself in full traditional Chinese custom on the first day of 2007. The marriage took place in a traditional courtyard in Haizhu district in Guangzhou. The bride wore a a red cheongsam while the bridegroom wore a yellow suits. In traditional customs, the "couple" were accompanied by the best man and matron of honour. They offer respect to Heaven and Earth, the ancestors, and to the elders.

Liu admitted that he is a narcissistic, and said that he decided on traditional ceremony because he is a traditional and conservative man at heart. He planned to bring his "bride" to be registered in the civil registry.

The man married himself in full traditional customs ? And he claimed to be traditional and conservative man ? Lan par par lan ! Chui kong lan par song ! Kowtowing his ancestor in full traditional customs expecting blessing from beyond the hades ? This Hakka-chai probably had one nut loose. If Mao Zhetung is still alive, he probably will end up facing the firing squad.

And there are hundred people attending his marriage ceremony ? Siow Kia, sei kai siow liow ! zhi lang siow, gui kampong lang tui ye siow.... sai lin nia leh, ong gia tai ng qe diak qe !
