A praying Dog.....

( Source : nydailynews )

Buddhist priest Joei Yoshikuni, and his Chihuahua named Conan in daily prayers at Naha's Shuri Kannondo temple in Okinawa. The dog usually does his daily prayer before his morning and after his evening meals. The priest is now trying to teach Conan how to meditate.

Bow wows, a Buddhist dog ? It goes to show that Buddhism is truly a universal religion for all living things on earth. Hahaha.... Perhaps, to make it more Zen like, the priest should have shaved the dog's head, and custom made a monk's robe for the dog.

Namo... Namo.... Namo Amithaba Chihuahua.... Woof, woof, woof.....

Mystery solved ?

Who are the Three Wise Men ?

After extensive research on secret documents recently released by the British security agency, I can now conclusively confirmed that, the Magi, aka Three Wise Men, does come from the east - yup, East of Hollywood. After decades of wondering around the land of the free and failing to locate baby Bush, they resigned themselves to become the King of Comedy and assumed the name of The Three Stooges to spread their message of love via short comedy films. The Three Wise Men are Moe Howard (aka Harry Moses Horwitz), Shemp Howard (aka Samuel Horwitz), and friend Larry Fine (aka Louis Feinberg).

In 1993, the Three Wise Men reincarnated as the Three Musketeer (Athos, Porthos, and Aramis ). They borrowed the special vehicle from Michael J Fox to travelled back into Golitha Falls in Cornwall, England to fight injustices and tyrannies.

Today, I believed the Three Wise Men are so fed up with humanity that they poofed themselves into the Three Famous Monkey - Speak No Evil, Hear no Evil, and See no Evil..

No wonder humanity is so screwed up nowadays ! But all is not lost, in the search for truth, we the Buddhists also pay great significant attention to the number "3", and we came up with the Three Jewels of Buddhism. The Three Jewels of Buddhism are The Buddha, The Dhamma, and The Sangha.

For peace of mind now, I shall go to the Buddha for refuge, I shall go to the Dhamma for refuge, and I shall go to the Sangha for refuge.

Well, what else can I say, at the end of the day, it all boils down to Buddhism. Buddhism is the truth, the way, and the tao of our cosmic universe. I am beginning to doze off to my much awaited satori. Good NiteZzzzzzz........

Hill of Rites

A 35-meter by 30-meter Thangka painting bearing the image of Sakyamuni, founder of Buddhism, is unveiled August 12, 2007 on the hillside next to the Zhebung Monastery in Lhasa, capital of China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The occasion marks the beginning of the annual Shoton (Yogurt Banquet) Festival that is believed to date back to the 11th century. Originally a religious activity for pilgrims to serve yogurt to monks and nuns finishing their summer retreat, the festival has become a theatrical event since the mid-17th century. The week-long festival features Tibetan opera performances and yak races.

The lighter side of Buddhism

In those good old days, Buddha had to find a shady place under the big Bodhi tree to perform his Vipasana meditation. But in these age of modern technology and luxury, I think Buddha will be laughing at you if you try to imitate the great teacher by sitting under the tree to do meditation. Why not put on your best HiFi set and sit in the comfort of air conditioning room to perform your meditation ? Why torture yourself with the unnecessary discomfort to seek enlightenment ? Are you still plucking young twig from the tree to brush your teeth ? Oooohhhhh.... does that made you closer to God ?

Well, one good thing about Buddhism is, it does not encourage its followers to commit stupidities by mindlessly imitating the great teacher or blindly accepting illogical mysticism of spirituality. Buddhism is about a philosophy of life to live a happy and practical life free from unnecessary sufferings and deceptive illogical conformities. The door of Buddhism is always open ! You are free to embrace Buddhism, and you are also free to renounce Buddhism at any time. That is why Buddhism is the fastest growing religion in the free world.

No offense to my fellow Buddhists, but I do enjoy humours on the mysticism of Buddhism. My great teacher told me, there is humour in enlightenment, or was it enlightenment in humour ? What ever it is, lan par par lan, it means the same to me. So, for a moment, please stop all the chanting of Namo namo which a lot of Buddhists don't understand anyway except the soothing musical vibrations. Let's all loosen up a bit and let's us all cheer up a bit to have a little bit humour in spirituality. I know Buddhists are the world most peaceful people. However, If you feel offended by these jokes, please recite "Lan mor all me tor hood". This special recitation will enable you to suppress all angers or grievances. At least I know you will not be mindlessly incited into sending death squad to vent your angers on innocent people to defend the honour of Buddha.

okay... I like these anecdotes :

Anecdote # 1: Walking on water

Three monks decided to practice meditation together. They sat by the side of a lake and closed their eyes in concentration. Then, suddenly, the first one stood up and said, "I forgot my mat." He stepped miraculously onto the water in front of him and walked across the lake to their hut on the other side.

When he returned, the second monk stood up and said, "I forgot to put my other underwear to dry." He too walked calmly across the water and returned the same way.

The third monk watched the first tow carefully in what he decided must be a test of his abilities. "Is your learning so superior to mine? I can match any feat you two can perform," he declared loudly and rushed to the water's edge to walk across it. He promptly fell into the deep water.

Undeterred, the yogi climbed out of the water and tried again, only to sink into the water. Yet again he climbed out and yet again he tried, each time sinking into the water. This went on for some time as the other monks watched.

After a while, the second monk turned to the first and said, "Do you think we should tell him where the stones are?"

Anecdote #2 : On the other side

A monk on his journey home comes to the banks of a wide river. Staring hopelessly at the great obstacle in front of him, he ponders for hours on just how to cross such a wide barrier.

Just as he is to give up his journey, he sees a great teacher on the other side of the river. The monk yells over to the teacher, "Oh Master, can you tell me how to get to the other side of this river?"

The teacher ponders for a moment, looks up and down the river and yells back, "You are already on the other side."

Of Nivana and Blogvana.....

In case you are still not aware, this Dalai Baru is a Buddhist. Yes, a Buddhist ! As a practising Buddhist, I know there are certain spiritual guidelines and procedural protocols to adhere to in my daily life. But, believe it or not, Buddhism also encourage its followers to use their brain to live a practical life and look at life in a lighter manner. Acceptance of Buddhism is a spiritual infusion of good energies to the hearts, minds, and souls. It is from these three aura precepts that love and peace are radiated to fellow human beings. Buddhism glorifies and celebrate life, and to all Buddhists, heaven is on earth. In fact, Buddhists are the most blessed people on this earth. I do not know about other religions, and I have no intention to belittle the sensitivity of the super sensitive people, but this is my perception of the philosophy of life as a Buddhist.

I am indoctrinated by Buddhism to accept other religions as what they are, and I am also indoctrinated by Buddhism to not to impose and transgress my Buddhist's values on others.

As a Buddhist, I respect and embrace the Law of Conservation of Energies ( Karma & Vipakka). I believe in the greatness of cosmic relativities.

Buddhism encourages its followers to have good sense of humours. I am allow to make fun of the great teacher, Buddha. I am also allow to have a humorous look at the the way of life of Buddhists. Having said that, until today, I still can not understand why Buddhist Monks need to shave their heads bald, and walking around town bare footed and parading their Botak heads.

You know, all Buddhists aspired to achieve Nirvana, Nibanna, or whatever you called it. For me, and as a Buddhist, by acquiring the serious interest in BLOGGING, I believed, I am almost there in achieving my final enlightenment of Nirvana. At least, for the time being, tapping my keyboards and sipping my favorite aromatic hot coffee in the middle of the night, I am in a world of my own in complete blogginess ranting and musing incoherent thoughts..... I am a cosmic digiZEN and I have achieved Blogvana with my hairs intact !!!!

Good Nitezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... Namo Amithaba Buddha.

A tall tales....

You know this man ? He is THE Dalai Lama, the icon of modern Buddhism. I think I used to ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo with him ! Whether he likes it or not, he is duty bounded to be my spiritual guru..

By the way, just look at his sexy dimples. Ain't he sexy ?

No offense intended. Personally, I think religion should be fun. Dalai - koh, hope you don't send your hit squad after me....

I met the Dalai Lama one day in my dream. He told me, God loves me so much, he gave me a pair of angelic wings. Ooop, with gentle blow of God's breaths, I was send from heaven to this dismay earth to save mankinds from sufferings.. the Dukka.

I was asked to "Pan Chee Seith Low Fu" !

Along the way, I got sidetracked and deviated. With my magical power, I transformed myself into a lovely dog and enjoys the luxuries on earth. I love the sunshines and deep blue seas. Heaven was indeed on earth...

Who said a dog's life was never good ? They said every dog will have his days. I am having my days - everyday !

But good thing never always lasts. Pokkai..... This world is full of grievance, apology, and attention seekers. I was told by God to solve the problem on earth. I have no choice but to transform myself into a BIG and HUGE monkey. At the moment, I am so pre-occupied with all these earthly problems. As a SooMooKung, I am having huge headaches. They are simply just too many monkeys around imitating me !!!!!

The almighty Buddha smiles and told me, it doesn't really matter how big my problem is. He knows, one day I will comprehend the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eighfold Path to achieve enlightenments. By that time, I will remove all dukkas from this world. I will attain my Buddhahood.......

Ha... Ha..... I know I will.....

Om mani padme hum.... om namo amithaba Buddha...

A Buddhist's Refuge Prayer

As a beginner in Buddhism, I like this prayer of refuge by Thich Nhat-Hanh. I am sharing this Refuge Prayer with readers of this blog. Kindly take note that, this is not an attempt to preach Buddhism here. It is merely an attempt to share a beautiful and meaningful prayer. Kindly ignore this posting if it offended your religious sensitivity. However, if you like this beautiful Refuge prayer, kindly share it with your friends and associates to spread the message of love. For further explanatory note on Buddhism, you can also visit Kalachakranet or BuddhaNet.

A Buddhist's Refuge Prayer
by Thich Nhat-Hanh

At the foot of the Bodhi tree,
beautifully seated, peaceful and smiling,
the living source of understanding and compassion,
to the Buddha I go for refuge.

The path of mindful living,
leading to healing, joy, and enlightenment,
the way of peace,
to the Dhamma I go for refuge.

The loving and supportive community of practice,
realizing harmony, awareness, and liberation,
to the Sangha I go for refuge.

I am aware that the Three Gems are within my heart,
I vow to realize them.
I vow to practice mindful breathing and smiling,
looking deeply into things.
I vow to understand living beings and their suffering,
to cultivate compassion and loving kindness,
and to practice joy and equanimity.

I vow to offer joy to one person in the morning
and to help relieve the grief of one person in the afternoon.
I vow to live simply and sanely,
content with just a few possessions,
and to keep my body healthy.

I vow to let go of all worry and anxiety
in order to be light and free.

I am aware that
I owe so much to my parents,
teachers, friends and all beings.
I vow to be worthy of their trust,
to practice wholeheartedly,
so that understanding and compassion will flower,
and I can help living beings
be free from their suffering.

May the Buddha,
the Dhamma,
and the Sangha
support my efforts.
