Terry Fox

A tribute to Terry Fox
(July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981)

A heroic Canadian who sacrificed his life to the cause of charity.
May we all remember his good deeds to humanity.

In the early 80's, I was still a college student in Canada. Time flies, more than 20 years has gone by. Occasionally I do recalled back the memories of my life as a student in Canada. Those were good old days of young man in search of knowledge in foreign land. I cherished those good memories of interacting with friendly and supportive people in a friendly country.

There is one young Canadian I find it hard to forget - Terry Fox. The young Canadian initiated the Marathon Of Hope to raise fund for cancer research. I can still recalled the grit and determined face of this young man on TV screen as he determinedly run across Canada on one leg and one artificial leg.

Terry Fox started his Marathon of Hope on April 12 1980 from Newfoundland by dipping his leg in Atlantic Ocean. His intended to complete his marathon run by dipping his leg in the Pacific Ocean at Victoria, british Columbia. After 143 days of running ( limping), he was forced to stop his quest on September 1st 1980 due to the worsening of bone cancer spreading to his lung. In total he covered more than 5000KM passing through Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario.

Terry Fox passed away on June 28th 1981. He was only 23 years old. Although he was unable to complete his Marathon Of Hope, but he helped raised awareness for Cancer research and Millions of dollars were collected for charity and research. He had also inspired “Terry Fox Run” in many parts of the world in September every year to raise money for cancer research. He was voted the most Famous Canadian of the 20th century.
